Dark Patterns: Deceptive Design in Kids App

Designed to Deceive
A "dark pattern" is a user interface carefully crafted to trick users into doing something they didn't mean to do. In kids' apps, this is rampant.
The "Fake" Close Button
Have you ever seen an ad where the 'X' to close it is microscopic, or appears only after 30 seconds? Or worse, a fake 'X' that actually opens the ad? These are dark patterns designed to trap children who just want to return to their game.
Emotional Manipulation
Some games use characters to beg or cry if a child doesn't buy a premium item. This exploits a child's natural empathy for profit. At Sobele.me, we believe this is unethical. Games should empower, not guilt-trip.
